Chamonix France

For those who love mountains and don't wear fur coats

Chamonix provides one of the most stunning winter settings in the Alps and is just one hour from Geneva airport and two hours from Milan. You are at the foot of the Mont Blanc and of several stunning peaks and glaciers in a valley that stretches for 20 kilometres from Les Houches to Le Tour. There is history in the air as this was where the first company of mountain guides was established and where many records of mountaineering were both set and broken. If you like nature and sport you will love this resort. If you are looking for the jet-set you probably give it a miss.

Chamonix offers some of the most challenging skiing in the Alps. It is not a ski-in/ski-out resort, but there is something for everyone. Logistically it can be a bit complicated as beginners and intermediates tend to ski on different slopes than advanced skiers making meeting for lunch a challenge. If you do not need a pampering resort though and do not mind getting around in a car it is truly worth visiting. If you are an advanced skier and if you are prepared to do some touring or skiing with a guide, you will be in the closest thing to skiers' heaven. You can also cross country ski, ice-climb, snow shoe, ski-doo, ski tour and enjoy many other winter sports.

Chamonix is not just for skiers and mountaineers. Sit back in front of a log fire with your favourite book, CD, or DVD. or visit Courmayeur, Martigny or Annecy. Do not come here expecting the jet-set crowd of Courchevel or St. Moritz, but if you are looking for an original mountain setting you won't be disappointed.
