Paris France
Romance, culture and gastronomy
One of the world’s most romantic and culturally rich cities, Paris is still the favourite city destination and with its fast train links to the UK and the rest of Europe it has become even more accessible in recent years. Paris boasts an excellent metro system, a brand new public bike service but for those who prefer two-wheelers, and we will be happy to arrange a private chauffeured service and guides to show you the best of the city.
Paris is steeped in history and culture with an art heritage stretching from Voltaire to Sartre to the Impressionists and Picasso. There is a vivid cultural scene in the city with exhibitions all year long in its majestic museums such as the Louvre with its vast collections, le Quai d’Orsay for the classics, or the Pompidou centre and Palais de Tokyo for the avant-garde. There are also numerous concerts, great jazz and, for those that speak French, lots of theatre.
While much of Paris was destroyed in World War II, it boasts some of the most ambitious and magnificent architecture in the world including a splendid blend of old and modern that is the envy of many other large cities. The best way to explore the city is on foot, winding your way through the Quartier Latin, the Marais and along the Seine. This is a city for kids as well as for adults, for intellectuals as well as hedonists, for gourmets, shoppers, art-lovers and just about anyone else with a love for beauty. If you do nothing else in Paris you should at the very least just sit in one of its cafes and watch the world go by.
Thousands of visitors flock to Paris every year to absorb its rich culture and romantic environment. The capital of chic, it is one of the fashion centres of the world and the home to many of the great names in haute couture and prêt à porter (Chanel, YSL, Louis Vuitton). Visit the large shopping stores such as Galerie Lafayette, the big shops or the multitude of small, lesser known, but equally chic boutiques off the Place Vendôme for jewellery or the Rue St Honoré and Avenue Montaigne for designer clothes. For those who like food, a visit to the markets is a must and the restaurant scene is second to none. Paris is the home of gastronomic restaurants such as L’Ambroisie, Ducasse or the new Cyril Lignac’s ‘Le Quinzieme’ as well as a glamorous night life. You can shift from cocktail sipping at ‘Le bar du the Plaza ’ to the various clubs of the 8th arondissement such as the favourite ‘Neo(club)’ to ‘ La Maison Blanche’ on the rooftops of Paris where the happy few can dance under the moonlight.
